The "Air" looks cool and everything...

But a comment on the Air demo struck me as funny:

"Most users won't need an optical drive"

WTF?

I'll certainly need one to install software, burn audio CD's, import audio into iTunes!

Yeah that really sounded a little ridiculous to me as well. Maybe if you have a USB 2.0 hard drive as a recovery/troubleshooting measure, torrent/download all your software, music and movies that might be the case. But that's just an absurd statement to make at this point in time.

My cousin ordered an Air and he says he doesn't care that much about the optical drive. So there's one.

Yeah when I was at MacWorld I spoke to a bunch of my Mac buddies and most just want it as a secondary computer... so they didn't care about what's missing. I think it would be a great travel computer but not for really long trips given you can't pop in a new battery! doh!

I think that the Macbook Air is way ahead of its time... First it is moving in the right direction of completely wireless.. I believe that within the next 10 years the entire US should have switched to some type of complete wifi which is free and then all content will really be downloadable. No more buying CDs... you can buy them and then download them without the physical media.... think about a perfect world......
