The Time Capsule unit is intriguing. I wonder just how functional that wireless hard drive is and how fast the data rates can be. What’s cool is to imagine having one hard drive networked to many machines. It would be cool to get my hands on one a play around with it.
Now that I think of it, I wonder if it can actually function as a regular hard drive or if the unit only functions as a Time Machine drive… hmm.
Wireless Backup
Apple’s hardware companion to Time Machine is an 802.11n wireless base station called Time Capsule .
Essentially the Apple Time Capsule is an Airport Extreme with an internal hard drive (500GB or 1TB). The Time Capsule, in conjunction with Time Machine, can automatically back up all your Macs in your network.
iPhone Backup?
The Time Machine is “compatible” with other units like the iPhone but it isn’t specifically mentioned that the unit can also serve as a backup for those devices.
